Dakota Blue Richards was born in the South Kensington district of London to social worker Michaela Richards. Her father’s name is unknown to the public. Later, her parents divorced, and Michaela was raising her daughter alone. The name Dakota Blue was given to the girl by her mother, who wanted the name to combine a geographical object with a color – Dakota is the home of the Sioux tribe with whom Mikaela became friends during a year spent in America, and Blue is Dakota’s father’s nickname.
